"Should I book now or wait for a sale?" is one of the most common cruise questions on Reddit this month (r/Cruise ↗). The good news: on both Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Line, booking early doesn't lock you out of a lower price later, as long as you act before final payment. The way you get the lower price is different on each line, and a couple of fare types can't be changed at all. Here's how it works, as of Oct 23, 2026.
The rules, side by side
| Royal Caribbean | Disney Cruise Line | |
|---|---|---|
| How you get a lower fare | Price match (Best Price Guarantee): fare adjusted on the same booking | Usually cancel and rebook at the new rate; some offers can be added to existing reservations |
| Deadline | Any time before final payment, or within 24 hours of booking | Before your paid-in-full date |
| Same booking required? | Same cruise, date and room type | Rebooking means your stateroom and old promotion aren't guaranteed |
| Catches | Not available in all countries or for all reservations | Placeholder 10% discount is lost if you cancel; guarantee (GT) rates allow no changes |
Royal Caribbean: ask for a price match
Royal Caribbean's Best Price Guarantee says that if you find a lower price for the same cruise, same date and same room type on its website or through its call center, it will match it. You can ask any time before your final payment or within 24 hours of booking. If the same cabin class is now cheaper, it adjusts your fare, and if you've already paid, it refunds the difference. If a higher cabin class is available for less than you paid, you may be offered a free upgrade instead, based on availability. The program isn't available in all countries or for all reservations, so confirm eligibility with your travel advisor (Royal Caribbean ↗).
Practical habit: check your exact sailing and cabin type every week or two until final payment, and especially when a new sale launches.
Disney Cruise Line: cancel and rebook, carefully
Disney Cruise Line doesn't publish a price-match program. On Disney's official planDisney forum, a panelist answered in Feb 2025 that if a lower fare appears before your paid-in-full date, you can call Disney Cruise Line to cancel and rebook at the better rate. Disney labels these answers as subject to change, so confirm when you call. That answer lists the catches (planDisney ↗):
- Placeholders: if you booked with a Placeholder, you lose that 10% discount when you cancel. Do the math before you call.
- No guarantees: once you cancel, your original stateroom, price or promotion may not come back.
- After final payment: canceling can mean penalties that grow as the sail date gets closer. Sometimes the savings still win; run the numbers first.
- Special fare types: restricted Guarantee (GTY) and Concierge staterooms have their own rules.
One more trap: Disney's current up to 25% off guarantee (GT) staterooms offer requires full payment at booking and allows no changes, so there's no window to rebook if prices fall later. See it on our Disney Cruise Line dry docks & deals page.
Some offers can be added without rebooking. The Disney Adventure 50% off 3rd and 4th guests deal (select 2027 Singapore sailings, book by Dec 20, 2026) can apply to qualifying existing reservations if you contact Disney Cruise Line (Laughing Place ↗).

Quick answers
Does Royal Caribbean refund the difference if the price drops?
Yes, under its Best Price Guarantee. If you find a lower price for the same cruise, date and room type on Royal Caribbean's website or call center, you can request a price match any time before final payment or within 24 hours of booking. Royal Caribbean adjusts the fare and refunds the difference if you've already paid. If a higher cabin class is cheaper than what you paid, you may get a free upgrade instead, based on availability. It isn't available in every country or for every reservation.
Can I get a lower price on a Disney cruise I already booked?
Often, if you're still before your paid-in-full date. A planDisney panelist answer (Feb 2025) says you can call Disney Cruise Line to cancel and rebook at the better rate. You lose a Placeholder's 10% discount if you cancel, and your original stateroom and promotion aren't guaranteed. After final payment, cancellation penalties can apply. Some offers can be added to qualifying existing reservations by calling Disney Cruise Line.
Can I reprice a Disney Cruise Line guarantee (GT) stateroom?
Don't count on it. Disney's guarantee rate requires full payment at booking and allows no changes, so there's no window before final payment to rebook at a lower price.
Should I book a cruise now or wait for a sale?
If the sailing and cabin you want are available now, the usual advice from cruisers is to book and keep checking the price. On Royal Caribbean, the Best Price Guarantee covers you until final payment. On Disney Cruise Line, a lower fare usually means canceling and rebooking before your paid-in-full date. Waiting risks the cabin selling out, and no one can promise a future sale will be cheaper.
