Disney World With a Toddler: Which Park First? (EPCOT vs Hollywood Studios, Ride by Ride)

Remy's Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT has no height requirement, one reason EPCOT works better for little kids than its reputation.

"Is EPCOT good for a 3-year-old?" and "EPCOT or Hollywood Studios for a 2-year-old?" were both asked on r/WaltDisneyWorld this week (Reddit ↗, Reddit ↗). The honest answer comes down to one number: how many rides your child can actually board. Here it is park by park, with what's closed through early January, as of Oct 27, 2026.

The short answer

For a child under 32 inches, the order is Magic Kingdom, then EPCOT, then Animal Kingdom, with Hollywood Studios last. If you're choosing between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios for a toddler, pick EPCOT.

ParkRides with no height requirementLittle-kid highlights
Magic Kingdom16 of 23Dumbo, Peter Pan's Flight, Winnie the Pooh, "it's a small world," the carrousel, Under the Sea. The Barnstormer opens up at 35 in.
EPCOT7 of 11Frozen Ever After, Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, The Seas with Nemo & Friends, Gran Fiesta Tour, Figment, Living with the Land, Spaceship Earth
Animal Kingdom3 of 6Kilimanjaro Safaris, Na'vi River Journey, Wildlife Express Train (which takes you to Bluey's Wild World)
Hollywood Studios2 of 9Toy Story Mania! and Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway. Alien Swirling Saucers opens up at 32 in.

Counts are rides only, not shows, trails or play areas, from Mouse Hacking's height list updated May 2026 (Mouse Hacking ↗). Disney can change a requirement at any time (Big Thunder Mountain dropped from 40 to 38 inches when it reopened in May 2026), so check the ride's page in the app before you promise anything.

Why EPCOT beats Hollywood Studios for toddlers

EPCOT's reputation is "grown-up park," but its gentle rides are some of the best on property for little kids: a boat through Arendelle, a trackless rat-sized chase through a Paris kitchen, and a clamshell ride past Nemo and real aquarium tanks. The four rides a toddler can't do are the thrill rides: Test Track, Soarin' and Mission: SPACE (Green) at 40 inches, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at 42 (Mouse Hacking ↗).

Hollywood Studios is the opposite. Seven of its nine rides have a height requirement, including Slinky Dog Dash and Millennium Falcon at 38 inches and Rise of the Resistance and Tower of Terror at 40. And through about early January there's one less thing for small kids to do: Mickey Shorts Theater (Vacation Fun) closes Oct 28, 2026 until about early January (WDWMAGIC ↗). If older siblings want Toy Story Land and Galaxy's Edge, go anyway and lean on Rider Switch (below), but don't make it a toddler's first park.

Animal Kingdom: fewer rides, more to do

Only three rides have no height requirement, but Animal Kingdom is mostly animals and walking trails, which toddlers tend to love. Bluey's Wild World opened at Conservation Station on May 26, 2026; you reach it on the Wildlife Express Train (Disney Parks Blog ↗). On most days this fall Animal Kingdom opens at 8 AM and closes around 6 PM, earlier than the other parks; see the day-by-day times on our park hours calendar and the Animal Kingdom guide.

Closures that matter with little kids (Nov – early Jan)

Every closure on our tracker, with its source, is on the Disney World closures page. Save your trip dates in the trip planner and every ParkScoop page shows how many tracked closures overlap them.

Five things that make a toddler park day work

  1. Go early. Disney Resort hotel guests get in 30 minutes before opening every day of their stay (Disney ↗). Mornings are cooler, lines are shorter and naps haven't been skipped yet.
  2. Use Rider Switch. Tell the Cast Member at the entrance; one adult rides while the other waits with the child, then up to two people from the waiting group ride without the regular wait. Disney lists it at rides like Frozen Ever After, Slinky Dog Dash, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, The Barnstormer and Alien Swirling Saucers (Disney ↗).
  3. Know where the Baby Care Center is. All four parks have one, free to use during park hours, with nursing and changing rooms, high chairs and a kitchenette with a microwave. They also sell diapers, wipes, sunscreen and formula, and it's where a lost child is taken (Disney ↗).
  4. Bring a stroller that fits the rules, or rent. The limit is 31 inches wide by 52 inches long, and stroller wagons aren't allowed at any size (planDisney ↗). Disney rents singles for $15 a day ($13 a day for a multi-day rental) and doubles for $31 ($27) (Disney ↗).
  5. Under 3 gets in free. Children under 3 don't need a park ticket, but include them on hotel and dining reservations (planDisney ↗).

Quick answers

Is EPCOT good for a 3-year-old?

Yes, more than people expect. EPCOT has 7 rides with no height requirement, including Frozen Ever After, Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, The Seas with Nemo & Friends and Gran Fiesta Tour, plus a Baby Care Center. The headline thrill rides (Test Track, Soarin', Mission: SPACE at 40 inches, Guardians of the Galaxy at 42) are the ones a 3-year-old usually can't ride.

EPCOT or Hollywood Studios for a 2-year-old?

EPCOT. A child under 32 inches can ride 7 rides at EPCOT but only 2 at Hollywood Studios (Toy Story Mania! and Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway). Mickey Shorts Theater at Hollywood Studios is also closed from Oct 28, 2026 until about early January.

Do toddlers need a Disney World ticket?

Children under 3 don't need a theme park ticket, according to a planDisney panelist answer from April 2026. Include them on hotel and dining reservations anyway. A child who is 3 needs a ticket.

Can I bring a wagon to Disney World?

No. Strollers can be up to 31 inches wide and 52 inches long, and stroller wagons are prohibited regardless of size under Disney's property rules, per a planDisney answer. Disney rents single strollers for $15 a day ($13 a day for multi-day rentals) and doubles for $31 ($27).

How does Rider Switch work at Disney World?

Tell the Cast Member at the ride entrance. One group rides while the other waits outside the line with the child; then up to two people from the waiting group ride without the regular wait. Disney lists it at rides like Frozen Ever After, Slinky Dog Dash, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and The Barnstormer.
